When you have a mold issue you have a moisture issue. Mold is a health hazard that needs to be dealt with immediately. In older houses bathrooms often do not have proper ventilation for the level of heat and moisture that is generated in daily showering and use. That is a minor moisture issue.
Major moisture issue revolve around leaks, floods and the walls retaining moisture. This is where waterproofing should be considered, so that moisture levels are controlled. Otherwise repeat remediation will be needed in the future. This could be as simple as installing a ceiling fan that vents to the exterior of the house, installing a sump pump, and/or more extensive options.
If you have a Mold issue you have a moisture issue. The professional description is Microbial Remediation. Mold like Kleenex is for tissue is a name brand name. But the product itself is much more various and has a greater range of identification than what is commonly communicated. Mold is a form Fungi takes when it is producing spores, which are like seeds to spread and reproduce. A very important reason great care is taken when trying to remove mold, if you aren't care you will spread the spores. If you continue to have a moisture issue you will make things worse.
Mold needs water, food and a stable surface to grow. The water is literal and can be liquid or vapor. The food is the components of your walls and ceilings, wood, drywall, paint, and porous materials. Plastic and metals not too commonly. Typically spaces are bathrooms, with little ventilation, especially with shower and are smaller than 8x8; rooms beneath roof leaks, kitchens where there is a lot of steam and vapors created with ceilings shorter than 8 feet, basements and any space after a water damage event. The amount of space is important to how concentrated the water vapor is, air circulation and temperature parameters. How often a space is 'wet' affects mold growth.
Not all molds will adversely affect your health. Not all people respond to mold the same way. It is important that mold surfaces that cannot be restored are removed, area is Hepa vacuumed, space treated with proper solution, let dry and vacuumed again. The space should be sealed off if sharing common spaces and a negative air filtration device used with proper air movement power to ensure air is being clean of any spore that go air born. Working in these conditions' respirators should be used.
If there is a moisture issue before closing up the area, air movers and dehumidifiers should be used to bring humidity down. Call Sandco at 240-461-4569 if you have issues with Mold.
